New Connecticut Law Provides Comfort Dogs to Testifying Witnesses

The Connecticut legislature enacted a new law on July 1, 2017 that protects the right for a testifying witness to have a comfort dog with them during testimony. This act came after the 2016 court case State of Connecticut vs. Devon.

A child in the case was testifying against her father in a sexual assault case and she had a comfort dog by her feet during official testimony. The law gives the judge discretion to allow a comfort or support dog for witnesses giving testimony in certain criminal cases.
