4 Ways Surgical Complications Could Be Medical Malpractice

Surgical Complications Complications after a surgery can be scary, life-threatening and the result of medical malpractice. In Connecticut, medical malpractice is a deviation from the standard of care that causes the patient permanent injury. If you believe your injuries are the result of medical malpractice, call our office right away.

The following are possible complications from surgery that could result in a medical malpractice case to be filed.

  1. Amputation. If you were scheduled to undergo an amputation procedure and the wrong limb was removed, this is medical malpractice
  2. Foreign objects. If you had a procedure and sponges, gauze, clamps, or other surgical tools were mistakenly left inside the body and there was permanent injury because of this negligence, this is medical malpractice.
  3. Post-surgical infections. Whenever a patient undergoes a procedure, there is a risk for infection. Sometimes, however, a post-surgical infection can be malpractice.
  4. Injury to organs. During surgery, your doctor is generally repairing one organ. Frequently, an adjacent organ can be damaged or perforated. Sometimes this is a recognized complication and sometimes a failure to notice the damage is medical malpractice.

If you think you or a loved one may have experienced one of the above complications from a recent surgery, contact one of our experienced and knowledgeable medical malpractice attorneys who will review your case.  With a doctor/attorney and nurse/attorney on staff, we can help you navigate both the legal and medical matters involved in a case like this.
