5 Ways To Prepare For A Labor Day Road Trip

Tuesday, August 17th, 2021 by | Posted In: Uncategorized

Many millions of Americans will hit the roads this coming Labor Day weekend.  The roads have been busier than ever this summer and Labor Day is likely to be no different.  If you are one of the many who will be hitting the road to celebrate the end of summer, you may want to consider taking some precautionary steps before you head out.

Some simple steps you take today can help prevent a Connecticut auto accident which would really dampen your end of summer celebration.  These steps are easy to take and can be the difference between arriving safely to your destination and ending up with an injury or worse.

Start with these safety tips:

  1. Check your tire pressure.  The summer heat can leave your tire pressure fluctuating and over or under-inflated tires can be a source of real danger on the road.  Making sure your tires are properly inflated before you leave for your road trip is an important step to take.
  2. Confirm your brake lights are working properly.  This can be tricky to know if you’re the sole driver of your vehicle under normal circumstances.  Enlist a friend, partner or co-worker to help confirm that your brake lights work as expected.  While they are helping you might want to confirm that your blinkers are working properly as well.
  3. Replace your windshield wipers if needed.  There is no greater risk to a driver than a pop-up summer thunderstorm.  Shoddy windshield wipers could really leave you in difficult circumstances.  Having brand new wipers installed will give you peace of mind that you’ll be safe no matter what the conditions are.
  4. Put together an emergency kit.  This is especially important if you’ll be traveling at night when the roads are not as crowded.  If you break down and are stranded on the side of the road you may need things like jumper cables, flares, a blanket, some non-perishable food and water.
  5. Clean your headlights.  Foggy or dirty headlights can make a road trip more challenging, but clear headlights will give you the bright light you need to be able to see cars in front of you at night.

Labor Day Weekend is a time to celebrate the fun you had all summer with a final few days of sun.  Getting to your destination can be a challenge with increased traffic on the road, but it doesn’t have to be dangerous.  Start now with these safety checks so you can be ready to go and insure that you have a safe trip without risking a Connecticut auto accident.
