According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrians are one of the few groups of road users to have experienced a fatality increase in the last several years.   1. Obey crosswalks. The NHTSA reports that 70% of pedestrian deaths were not at intersections.
  2. Be careful in cities. Three in four deaths were reported in urban areas. Follow walk signals and be mindful of vehicles.
  3. Walk in well-lit areas. 33% of those pedestrians hit by a car happened between 8 p.m and midnight.
