Connecticut Medical Malpractice: Keeping Yourself Safe At The Hospital

Friday, September 4th, 2020 by | Posted In: Hospital Negligence, Medical Malpractice

It can be very stressful if you or a loved one need to go into a hospital for surgery or other procedure, especially during this COVID time. When you enter a hospital, there are ways you can keep yourself safe and avoid a Connecticut medical malpractice injury.

  1. If you are in a hospital, it is within your rights as the patient to ask all healthcare providers who will touch you if they have washed their hands. Hand-washing is an important way to stop the spread of infection.
  2. If you are undergoing surgery, make sure you, your doctor, and your surgeon are all on the same page on what procedure will be performed. Even though the wrong-site surgery rate is low, it still happens and is 100% preventable.
  3. If choice is an option, choose a hospital where your same surgery is performed often.
  4. Upon discharge from the hospital, make sure your doctor explains the treatment plan you will follow at home. This should include any medications you will need to take, follow-up appointments, and when you will be able to get back to your regular activities. Getting clear instructions could prevent an unexpected trip back to the hospital.

If you or a loved one was injured during a hospital stay, it may be Connecticut medical malpractice. Our team is experienced with cases like this and includes a doctor/attorney and nurse/attorney. Find out if you have a medical malpractice case.
