Connecticut Medical Malpractice: Nurse Burnout Addressed By Joint Commission

Every employer has workplace culture: the way people feel about working there, the amount of stress employees are under, and much more. Nursing is a profession where burnout and stress are commonplace. Burnout and stress can cause medical errors, which can be considered Connecticut medical malpractice depending on the circumstances.

This past summer, the Joint Commission, a healthcare accreditation agency, published a report addressing this issue. After interviewing over 2,000 nurses, more than 15% reported feelings of burnout with emergency department nurses at a higher risk. Those same respondents reported that only 5% of them felt that their employer was adequate in helping them with those feelings.

Fatigued nurses, like fatigued physicians, can make critical medical errors while caring for patients that can cause significant, permanent injury, including death.
