Connecticut Pedestrian Accident: 10-Year-Old Hit By Car

A pedestrian accident sent a New Haven girl to the pediatric emergency department at Yale-New Haven Hospital. She was struck by a car on Orchard Street. The girl suffered a broken leg after she exited a car onto the sidewalk and then walked in front of the car before she was hit.
Pedestrian accidents are becoming all too common in Connecticut. In fact, a recent report released by the Auto Insurance Center reveals some interesting statistics about pedestrian accidents.
- Sixty percent of pedestrian fatalities are men; 40% are women.
- Connecticut is ranked 28th for pedestrian safety nationwide
- For every 100,000 Connecticut residents, there are 1.3 pedestrian fatalities
- The average age for pedestrian fatalities in Connecticut is 49.8 years
In 2014, there were 5,000 pedestrian deaths nationwide. They are usually preventable so it is important that whether you are behind the wheel, or walking on the street that you are aware of your surroundings.
