Don’t Let Sun Glare Lead To A Connecticut Auto Accident

The sun can cause issues when driving year round, but particularly in the summer months it can be devastating to your safety.  The bright rays of sunshine streaming into your car at all hours of the day during the summer months can really put you at risk of getting into a Connecticut auto accident.

The good news is that there are some things you can do to help keep yourself and the passengers in your car safe from the sun glare.  If you follow some of the recommended behaviors from AAA you will put yourself in a much better position to stay safe.  Some of their suggestions include;

  1. Wear sunglasses:  The dulling effect that sunglasses have on the glare may be enough to keep you from not being able to see effectively.
  2. Always keep your windshield clean.  A dirty windshield is an invitation for the sun to stream in and refract in a difficult way making it more challenging to see.  If you keep your windshield spotless you will have a better time fighting off the glare of the sun.
  3. Use your headlights.  This tip is less about you being able to see the road in front of you and more about the people around you being able to see you.  Make sure your headlights are clean and clear so that on-coming traffic can see you without any problems.
  4. If all else fails, pull over.  This may not be ideal, but if the glare is too much and you truly can’t see you should pull the car over and wait until the angle of the sun is not directly in your eyes while you’re driving.

Sun glare is a really dangerous thing when you’re driving year round, but in the summer months it gets significantly worse.  If you take some simple steps to minimize the glare you will be protecting yourself and your passengers from the potential of a Connecticut auto accident. While much of the discussion around weather related issues when driving is rightfully placed on the winter months, summer has its own challenges that all drivers should be prepared for.
