If You’re Experiencing Back Pain After Surgery It May Be Connecticut Medical Malpractice

Nobody wants to go in for surgery.  It can be a stressful time that can leave you with pain that you might not otherwise have had.  If you’ve gone in for surgery for back troubles you may leave the hospital and continue to experience back pain.  What should you do then?

First, it is important to know that some back pain immediately following surgery is normal.  You should check with your surgeon, but in most cases having back pain for 4-6 weeks after your surgery is normal and should not raise any alarms.  It is when back pain is persistent that you may want to raise questions.

If your back pain lingers that does not necessarily mean that you have been involved with a Connecticut medical malpractice issue, but it may.  Before you go down that route you should speak with your surgeon and medical providers about the type of pain you’re continuing to experience and work with them to investigate the issue further.

One thing you should absolutely not do is begin to self medicate.  After your surgery you will likely be provided with pain medication.  You should take this pain medication as instructed.  If your pain persists beyond your medication you should seek additional investigation from your medical provider.

How will you know if your pain has progressed into a Connecticut medical malpractice situation?

After you have waited through the 4-6 week period of time that pain generally persists and after you have consulted your surgeon about the pain persisting, you may want to seek out a second opinion.  If your continued pain is a result of a deviation from the standard of care by your surgeon you may have a medical malpractice case.  In that case, you should contact our office to speak with our doctor/attorney or nurse/attorney so they can begin a complete medical and legal investigation into your case.
