Keep Your Kids Safe At The Pool This Summer

Warmer temperatures bring more chances to head to the pool and go for a swim to cool off.  What better way to do it than with a nice dip at your community pool.  As any parent knows though, there are some serious chances for Connecticut personal injuries at a pool.

Keeping your kids safe at the pool is one of the things that many parents worry about the most over the summer months.  These worries are justified as pool related injuries are a real concern and any interaction with water can have devastating impacts on a child’s well-being.  We’ve put together a few tips to help keep your kids safe and make sure your mind is at ease when you bring your family to the pool for a day of fun over the summer.  Keep these tips in mind and you’ll have a great time without the worry;

  1. Reinforce the rule that there is no running anywhere on the pool deck.  The younger the child, the harder this is to enforce, but it is a critical first rule to keep your kids safe.
  2. Only allow swimming when a lifeguard is on duty.  If there is no lifeguard at the time, wait before getting into the pool.
  3. Always use a ladder or steps to get into the pool.  Diving or jumping can lead to serious injury, especially into an unfamiliar pool.
  4. Avoid big crowds of people.  This can be hard at a community pool, but the more people you are around the greater your chance that you might get struck or pulled under the water.
  5. Know your swimming strength.  If you are an expert level swimmer, the deep end may be for you, but if you’re still learning, stay where you can reach the bottom.  If you want to venture into the deep end, make sure a parent or guardian is watching as you swim.
  6. Don’t splash water onto the pool deck.  While some water on the deck is inevitable, splashing water intentionally is not a safe practice.

Kids love going to the swimming pool and it should be a happy and joyous time, but it can also get dangerous very quickly.   All it takes is one patch of water in the wrong spot of the pool deck and your afternoon can go from fun outing to Connecticut personal injury case in no time.

We hope you have a wonderful time this summer wherever you are enjoying the beautiful weather and always keep in mind that following safety rules will keep the good times rolling.
