New Guidelines For Healthcare Worker Violence

Friday, July 6th, 2018 by | Posted In: Worker's Compensation

The Joint Commission has released guidelines for protection of healthcare workers, both physical and verbal. OSHA reports that 75% of workplace assaults occur annually in the healthcare sector while violence-related injuries are four times more likely to cause healthcare workers to take time off of work to recover.

This Sentinel Event Alert, numbered 59, comes with some overlaps to Alerts 40 and 57 — which were released in 2008 and 2017, respectively, and focused on the development and maintenance of safety culture – and therefore were not addressed in this alert.

If you are a healthcare worker and were violently injured on the job, contact our firm. Our experienced team will begin an investigation to see if your workplace had protections in place.
