Top 5 Safety Tips For Labor Day Weekend Travel

Thursday, September 2nd, 2021 by | Posted In: Uncategorized

If you’re planning on heading out of town for the Labor Day weekend holiday there are some safety measures you can take before even leaving your driveway that will help you avoid a Connecticut auto accident.  These safety measures will only take a few short minutes and can help keep your car driving smoothly and without incident all the way to and from your destination during this holiday weekend.

Take these five steps before you get out on the road and your celebration will be interruption free;

  1. Check and/or replace your windshield wipers.  Getting caught in a rainstorm with subpar windshield wipers can mean the difference between staying safe and living dangerously.  If they need to be replaced, replace them BEFORE you go.
  2. Ensure your tires are properly inflated.  Checking the air pressure in your tires is one of the best things you can do to keep yourself safe and to also maximize your gas mileage on your trip.  This is a two for one tip.
  3. Confirm that all your lights are working.  Do a complete check around your entire car to make sure that your headlights, tail lights, and brake lights are all working.  Don’t forget a check of your blinkers as well.
  4. Prepare an emergency kit.  If you don’t already have an emergency kit in your trunk, you should.  You should include things like flares, flashlights, tools, and some non-perishable foods in it, in case you get stranded and need to wait for help.
  5. Check your oil and all other fluids.  This may not seem like a safety issue, but if your car breaks down on the side of the road because you didn’t have enough oil or your transmission malfunctions you will put yourself and everyone in your car in danger as you wait for your car to be repaired.

Many people will be on the road this Labor Day weekend and if you’re heading out you’ll want to be prepared.  Taking a few extra minutes to check your car and make sure that all of the important components of your car are functioning as expected will help keep you and your passengers safe.  There is no way to completely prevent a Connecticut auto accident, but doing these few small things will certainly go a long way.

All of us at McEnery, Price, Messey, and Sullivan wish you and your family a safe and happy Labor Day Weekend.
